 Just few short years ago, credit cards that fell into the low introductory category were very different than today. The new banking regulations have altered the way banks promote their offers to attract new customers. Although the intention was to ease the burden on consumers, the actual result of the Card Act is new level of complexity when determining the best card for your own personal situation.

Nowadays, the credit card issuers have expanded the variety of offers available in all categories. Low Introductory cards now might have two different rates and/or two different intro periods depending on whether the balance is transferred or accrued through current purchases. This means you, the applicant, need to first determine what feature suits you best. If you are intending to make large purchases to be paid off during the intro period, a low purchase rate and long intro period would be the paramount benefits to search for. Alternately, if you want to transfer a balance from another card to enjoy a low or zero rate during the intro period, balance transfer rate and duration would be of particular value.

Although slightly more complex than in the past, an informed and diligent consumer can reap larger rewards by performing research up front and attention to the terms after obtaining a new credit card. Additionally, one of the best features of the Card Act is the required method for the application of over payments made to your account. Any savings from your new low intro card can be applied to another card to further reduce those high interest balances.
